Artists To Watch

Tom has always had an eye for composition and a natural concept of value and color harmony in his photography. Last summer he was inspired to try his hand at painting. He never seemed to struggle and if he had any questions, I was there to show him a few tips and techniques. I truly believe that he was born with the gift and the discipline to make his artwork something to appreciate!IMG_4612

My Star Pupil

IMG_7653How fun is it to be able to share your (in my case) many passions with someone that you love. Whether it is hopping on a pony to ride the fence line or creating amazing art, this blog will fill in the gaps and help me to share our new life after the Rockin’ P. Did not think I would survive the many changes, but miracles do happen and this gets better with every wrinkle and chipped nail. (haha)

So Beautiful or So What

so beautiful

In the words of Paul Simon

You know life is what we make it

So beautiful or so what

I’m gonna tell my kids a bedtime story

A play without a plot

Will it have a happy ending?

Maybe yeah, maybe not

I tell them life is what you make of it

So beautiful or so what

Soooooooo beautiful

Some people are like flowers, they are sooooo beautiful.  There is a lot of so what and so awful in the world, but I will never be inspired by that.

Spring has Sprung

This photo was taken by Leicaman on our morning walk. An unusual view of Texas Bluebonnets, but I love it, probably because of that or maybe because like Daddy Bub….Leicaman loves carrying a camera with him where ever he goes….sometimes two or three. This morning he took photos of the moon…..yesterday it was something different….all while I was still sleeping. He is so lucky that we have dogs to wake him up to get these AWESOME SHOTS!!!!!

I love these colors.I was inspired to paint some trees. I said it was not finished. My teacher and best critic, Tom said “It’s finished” So I said…Good I’m ready to paint something else….Tom and I have been remarking about the gold green color of the Mesquite trees as they are just coming out……I had just the right color in my palette, so I sketched this little tree today for him….
Speaking of Spring…..I just want to say that my Mamacita who gave me my maiden name of Spring….is the most awesome chica that I have ever met and I am soooo proud of her for taking care of herself and staying healthy and strong!!!!! Te amo mucho!!!!!

Hear Me Roar

oil painting of female Bengal Tiger

This rainy, cold weather makes me want to climb the walls. If I had to go out, I would wish that I could stay home, but we did actually go for a quick run. The good thing about being inside the last two days, is that I was able to finish two paintings that have been sitting on the easel…….

I AM SO HAPPY about this !!!!!!!!

worried owl

I was getting worried that I would never finish another painting…..just start new hopeless cases that are destined to embarrass me after I am gone, or my relatives, that is…….Well, at least two are finished. I just might do a little rain dance after all!

Sad Little Barn Owls

This is a watercolor sketch that I am working on. It is part of a series of owl paintings that I am making into cards that will be for sale here They will be posted for sale with my larger paintings when the cards are ready. Yes, I am still an owlaholic with no desire to change!

Sad Little Barn Owls

Owl City

owl painting in oil on ampersand board

This painting is exactly what I remember from our owl sighting about two years ago. I was riding Sarita and Tom was on Francie. It was not quite dark, but two Barred owls were perched together right on the fence-line to our neighbor’s property. The only other time we saw two owls together was right when we first bought the Rockin’ P ranch in 1996. I have seen a few road kill of these barred owls because of their habit of flying and hunting at a low position, perfect target for cars. Sunday night we saw one perched beside the county road and Tom saw him early this morning again. Too far away and too dark, but he was really looking for him.

There you are!

I love all birds and animals, but owls are my current obsession and here is my collection……The painting above is oil on ampersand board of two eagle Owls. Some of my other paintings are listed on Etsy and you can click here to see them at Leicalady.etsy.com

It was A Dark and Creepy Night….

Go Away!

Go Away!

We love it when we spot an owl. Seeing two was a special treat late one  afternoon, trail riding in a wooded area of the ranch. We always carry our cameras with us on our saddles, but these two were long gone before we had a chance to capture them. This is a big painting  in oil that I have started that reminds me of that day. If we had been lucky enough to get that shot, the depth of field would have been shallow and the image pretty much out of focus and underexposed. I will never forget the eyes, though.

Cows

just cows medThis has been the most fun painting to work on. It is painted with oil and I feel like I finally have the feel of it and I really love it….I thought watercolor would always be my first choice, but for now I am hooked on the richness of oil…….Besides these beautiful bovines, my inspiration comes from Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. My artist friends call me Dandrew and that is a compliment. My models for this painting belong to my neighbors. You can see how fat and sassy they are. They are contented cows, for sure…..Most of my paintings have been reproduced as Giclees by the finest photographic lab in the country and I just posted them all for sale on Etsy.com. This painting will be available in a limited edition (less than fifty) and will be reproduced on archival quality Artist’ stock material. Hand signed by Dana Spring Parish.
