Floresville Peanut Festival Royalty

In my humble opinion, the Duke and Duchess representing Sacred Heart School in Floresville were the highlights of this year’s Peanut Festival Parade. Duchess Jordan Boswell looked radiant from the early morning when we met to decorate the car until the final wave at the end of the two hour parade.

Tom, Duke Peyton and I started working our magic on the already awesome black BMW at 7:30 Saturday morning. We had the advantage of professional signs made by Alamo Photo Labs, that made other parade entries envious. We were hoping we would not get a flat tire before the fun began!

With a little help from the local El Walmarto we were ready when the judges cruised by two hours later.

I tried to bribe them with chorizo tacos, but they sped on by without even noticing the 10 dollar bill I was waving…..

dana-bettyThe first Wine & Art Fest was held in 2006 at the Sacred Heart Church Hall and due to the large participation it was moved to the Wilson County Show barn on HWY 97 in Floresville. It was a huge success raising over $25,000.00 in funds. The guests were treated to an excellent dinner and  appetizers  including a variety of cheeses. A wonderful selection of wine and desserts topped off the night. The awesome music by “Small Town Habit” entertained us featuring local talents Charlie Franklin and his wife Crystal. One of the highlights for me was a demonstration by John Karger of Last Chance Forever bird sanctuary. He and his assistant Kelley brought a Lanner Falcon from Africa and a Barn Owl that had been orphaned at birth. Our dear friends Bruce and Betty Dueley donated art and photography which brought in several hundred dollars in the live auction. The Dueley’s joined us at the ranch for Karaoke after the event which made the night even more fun!!!!!danas-golden-eagletom-bruce

In January of 2008 the 3rd annual Wine Cheese and Art Festival was held at the Wilson County Show Barn in Floresville. Tom and I made some new friends  and it was great to talk to the people who bid on the artwork that we donated to the auction and see that they will really cherish their paintings especially because the proceeds are going to such a great cause. One darling Priest bought my “Golden Eagle” giclee to hang in the halls of the parochial school where he teaches in honor of their  team “The Eagles”. I was honored to sign it for him as well as other paintings bought by super nice people that probably will not just cram their paintings into a closet……One of the greatest compliments I received was from a really cool young gentleman named Sammy who told me not to ever worry about anyone else’s opinion about the value of my art because some people do not recognize a Rolex when they see it. Our friend Sandy who owns Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard made reference to Andrew Wyeth in the same sentence as her  admiration of my art. This beautiful woman is an incredibly artist  and I can only dream of being able to take lessons from her at some point in our lives…..The truth is, actually…….that, Tom and my precious Mamacita Reet LOVE my art and for that reason, I am at peace with it all.
